“The Power of Seeing: Humane Urban Design Project” won the “Delhi Within”, Ideas Competition to Reinvent, Revise, Realise Delhi’s Untapped Urban Potential, on September 26, 2009

Placing the body’s convenience, comfort and safety at its center, Studio Abhyas launched the Power of Seeing: Humane Urban Design Project in 2005. The project facilitates school children and young adults to ADOPT a street element in their neighbourhood and document its history over and extended period of time.

The aim of the project is to first of all connect the child to his/her environment, instill an-eye-for-detail in the young, hone their observation and documentation skills, empower and equip them to become care takers of their environment, facilitate a healthy interface between citizens and civic authorities, lobby for centralized emergency helpline numbers, make information pertaining to public spaces and amenities public, and make our streets humane and pedestrian friendly.

The Project is not about pointing fingers, it is about being connected to the environment, taking care of it as one’s own and being responsible as well as watchful; and letting the authorities know that we are looking!
